There are three main factors to consider when choosing oil filled radiator heaters:

Room size: Choose a radiator with the appropriate power output (measured in watts) to effectively heat your space.

Portability: Some models come with castor wheels or handles for easy transportation between rooms.

Are portable oil filled radiators safe to use?

How do I maintain my oil filled radiator?

Oil filled radiators require minimal maintenance. Regularly wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth to remove dust and debris, and inspect the power cord for any signs of wear or damage. There's no need to change the oil, as it's designed to last for the life of the radiator.

 Are oil filled radiators energy efficient?

An oil filled radiator uses electricity to heat the oil inside, making it incredibly efficient to run as you’ll need less energy to maintain the temperature of your home, or other areas that don't have central heating.

While it can take a little longer to heat up than other forms of heating, the fluid inside the radiator cools down very slowly and will continue to radiate warmth even when you’ve switched it off.

 What energy saving features should I look for in an oil filled radiator?

Adjustable thermostats allow you to control your temperature and choose a lower setting for your room so you only use the energy you need, reducing energy wastage.

Look for oil filled radiators with a timer to program the heater when you're not at home, or eco mode which automatically adjusts its heat output depending on the room's current temperature.

 How long does it take for an oil filled radiator to heat up?

The time it takes for an oil filled radiator to heat up depends on factors such as the radiator's power output and the size of the room.

Generally, it can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes for the radiator to reach its maximum temperature.

However, since oil filled radiators are known for their ability to retain heat, they continue to provide warmth even after being turned off.

 Can I use an oil filled radiator in a bathroom or damp environment?

It's not recommended to use an oil filled radiator in a bathroom or damp environment unless it's specifically designed for such use and has the appropriate IP (Ingress Protection) rating.

Using a radiator not designed for damp environments could pose a risk of electric shock or damage to the unit.

 How do I determine the appropriate power output for my oil filled radiator?

A general rule of thumb is to have 100 watts of power per square metre of space.

For example, a 1500 watt oil filled radiator should be sufficient for a room measuring approximately 15 square metres. However, factors such as insulation, ceiling height and window size can affect heating requirements, so it's always best to consult with a professional if you're unsure.
